Symposium "Soundscapes & Listening"
of the European "Forum Klanglandschaft FKL"
at the University of Applied Sciences, St. Pölten, May 14-16 2009

Conventions of the European "Forum Klanglandschaft FKL" are taking place every two years in one of the European member countries. Recently there have been conventions in Vienna (2001), Meran (2003), Potsdam (2005) and Basel (2009). This year, the convention is held at the University of Applied Sciences, St. Pölten.

Within this year's convention, current works on the topic of soundscape studies from the fields of science and art respectively - ranging from culture, media or music science, geography and music pedagogy to music therapy, composition, sound and media art as well as broadcast applications - are presented as papers or presentations.

The European "Forum Klanglandschaft FKL"

The European "Forum Klanglandschaft FKL" considers itself a mediator between people from different disciplines, who occupy themselves with acoustic ecology and aural spaces. The forum aims at encouraging activities in art, science and education which are intended to foster the sensitization for acoustic ecology, and improve their quality as well as enhance an active and open form of hearing.

The countries of Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland are represented in the "Forum Klanglandschaft FKL". The Forum's headquarters are situated in Switzerland, presidency at the moment is held by Austria. The association is open to everybody who is interested in listening and designing the auditory environment.

The "Forum Klanglandschaft FKL" is a member of the international network of the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology WFAE, where international organizations from Greece, Great Britain, Finland, Australia, Japan, Canada, Mexico and the USA are represented in the managing comittee.
